There is a very smug looking lizard in my room.

The aforementioned lizard has apparently discovered something plant-like enough to his taste, and has decided to partake of this plant-like stuff. Which seems to be very much to his taste. I suspect this is an attempt at drawing some attention, since Amanda isn't there to shower him with love and fruity bits as much as he wants. Or something like that.

The plant-like stuff is actually derived from wood pulp.

Damn it. I liked that book. A lot. It was hard to find too.

Gnrng.

I'm just gonna go be a good sunlamp now. How do lizards manage googly eyes anyway?

*sigh*

Dare I even ask?

What book the lizard chewed on?

It's a first edition! Sure, translated first edition but...

If Frank didn't so happy about being near me right now I'd- gyah. Ate. My. Book.

There goes page 15... one of few left.

I know I'd be irritated...

if Frank ate one of _my_ books.

Who's supposed to be looking after him since she's gone?

Bill her for the replacement. Or maybe I can help - what's the title of the book again?

You don't have to be embarrassed - we all have literary skeletons in our closets.

Haroun

It's just... any book but that one!

I don't know. I expect one of her roomates. This is me giving whoever that someone is a Very Significant Look now.

And... it's not the price so much as the finding it again.

It's not embarassing. Well. No. Not. I just used to get teased a lot for it. :p Something along the lines of rockstar wannabes not needing to spend time reading that.

...

You have literary skeletons in your closet?

Doesn't everyone?

I mean, come _on_, reading material where I grew up was either A) religious or B) imported from the West.

So I'd read anything I could get my hands on.

Salaam,
Haroun

Ooh?

So what did you read that was imported from the West?

*curious*

Many things

Engineering texts, Adam Smith, Heinlein, a few others that I'm not going to mention publically.

*evil grin*

Now I really want to know. A lot. Oh so much.

All that I am going to say is...

that my Mother and I share a taste for some kind of books.

That's not saying anything!

I am devoured by curiosity now. This is a woeful state to be in, you know. Such woe. Such sadness.

Oh, shove it already

Grumpy thing, you are.

Hrm. Fine. The Three Sisters.

*eyes last page going the way of the dodo*

First edition translation by Covan, 1922 and wah. Lizard googly eyes keeping me from turning Frank into a shish kabob!

The Three Sisters?

Never heard of it.

And I'm not grumpy. I'm defensive about my reading habits.

There's a difference.

Besides, if you want me to ungrump you know where I am.

Salaam,
Haroun

WHAT?!

CHEKHOV!

You don't know Chekhov? Really? Gnngr. I have books to lend you. I do. I'm not waving my arms madly and all now. Am not.

And I'll bring them along when I wander over to ungrump you. Soon as I can convince Frank to stop making googly eyes at me and maybe let me keep that last bit of book...

I'm an engineer, remember?

Pbhhhhht!

And I'm going to find out exactly what kind of reading makes you all grumpy and not wanting to talk about it now.

I had no idea...

Well, that's better than getting told I shouldn't bother reading anything in depth cause I'm just going to be some flaky rock star. ;)

Fine. I'll throw in some lighter reading in the book pile I bring over too.

You'll have to forgive me

if I am overcome with joy at the thought.

What do you consider light reading? English is not my first language, although I like to think I'm fairly fluent.

You're entirely forgiven. *solemn nod*

And my mother was a soap opera star. What do you think?

*grin*

Now. Books all ready. May stop for tea or something on the way over. And a snack. Am hungry. Be right there!

It's official.

Someone crapped in your haggis. Relax, take a few deep breaths. Go do that Askani deep-breathing thing you showed me. Cuddle your wife-to-be.

I get to go have a well-meaning Alison drop a bunch of lit-crap on me.

Salaam,
Haroun
